Weindel sworn in as St. Pauls mayor

ST. PAULS — Jerry Weindel was sworn in as the mayor of St. Pauls Monday, assuming the office for a second time after previously serving from 2015-19.

Weindel was elected in November to fill the seat for two years to complete the unexpired term of former mayor Elbert Gibson, who died in 2024. Weindel was the only candidate in the election.

“I’ve got a lot to catch up on; six years went by and we’ve got a lot going on,” Weindel told The Robesonian after he was sworn in Monday. “I’m looking forward to, my first couple of months, trying to absorb everything I can and I definitely want to hit all the departments. … I’m one of the ones that likes to get in there, know everything, be involved and mainly I like getting out there and talking to people. I think communication is big.”…
