Red Springs welcomes new commissioners

RED SPRINGS — The town of Red Springs swore in its three newly elected commissioners on Tuesday night.

Commissioners Ronnie Patterson, Murray McKeithan and Ellion Donte McQueen were sworn in for their four-year terms after their victories in last month’s election.

Outgoing commissioner Neil Lea’Kes was thanked for his service at Monday’s meeting, which was his last, alongside Mayor Edward Henderson, who will continue to serve until the mayoral race is decided. That race, between Commissioners Caroline Sumpter and Duron Burney, is currently under protest and awaiting a hearing with the state Board of Elections, with Sumpter holding a two-vote lead…
