Cumberland County Residents: Apply Soon for Heating Assistance Through DSS

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services (DSS) in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is accepting applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). This federal program provides a one-time payment to help eligible households with heating bills. Payments are made directly to the energy vendor.

Priority is given to people aged 60 or older and to households with a disabled member who receives services from the N.C. Division of Aging and Adult Services. Households that received LIEAP in the 2024-25 fiscal year were notified in November 2025 and will receive automatic payments again this year.

People aged 60 or older and disabled individuals who did not receive an automatic notice can apply starting December 10, 2025. All other households may apply from January 2, 2026, to March 31, 2026, or until funds run out…
