A male customer at a Journeys store inside Fayetteville’s Cross Creek Mall is accusing a female employee of making a religiously disrespectful remark toward him during a dispute over a shoe exchange. According to the caption on one of his TikTok posts, he said he purchased a pair of shoes from the store and was told at checkout that he could return or exchange them as long as they were not “damaged” or “heavily worn.” He explained that the shoes were intended for someone else, but after the person tried them on and realized they did not fit, he returned to the store the following day with the receipt to exchange them.
@adully60 I purchased a pair of shoes from Journeys the day before I returned to the store. Before buying them, the employee who checked me out specifically told me I could return or exchange the shoes as long as they were not damaged or heavily worn. The next day, I came back with my receipt to exchange them because they did not fit the person I bought them for. He briefly tried them on outside, realized they didn’t fit, and immediately changed back into his own shoes. When I attempted to exchange them, the employee at the counter refused and told me she “didn’t care” what the previous employee said. She also refused to provide the corporate number when I asked. She claimed she was the manager, but security later confirmed that she was not. When she contacted the actual manager, they also denied the exchange without hearing my full explanation. Most concerning, the employee made an inappropriate and discriminatory remark toward me after I said “I swear to God.” She responded by saying “oh, on Allah” in a mocking tone and laughed, followed by “you Muslims,” which I found extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. #fyp #xyzbca #fayettevillenc #racist #journey
However, the customer alleged that when he arrived at the counter and explained the situation, the employee on duty refused to process the exchange and told him she did not care what the employee from the previous day had said. He also claimed that a manager supported the refusal without first hearing his explanation.
Things Got Heated Afterwards
Based on the videos he uploaded, the situation escalated after their initial conversation. In one short clip, the employee can be heard repeatedly telling him to leave the store, while the customer refuses and continues asking her to provide the corporate phone number. The employee, in turn, refuses and tells him to look it up on his own…
