GARLAND — Two men are dead after a fiery one-vehicle accident near Garland on Saturday night.
According to the NC Highway Patrol, Trooper A.T. Cox responded to a single-vehicle, double fatality on NC 411 (Harrells Highway) just east of Garland at around 6:35 p.m.
An investigation showed that a 2006 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Marcedo Allen McNeil, 33, of Stedman, was traveling east “at a very high rate of speed” when he ran off the road to the right and lost control. Reports indicate that McNeil crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and struck a ditch. Then, the vehicle crossed the ditch and struck a power pole, bringing it and the power lines down, before striking a large tree and catching fire.
