Five tractor trailers burn in Vass fire

Five unoccupied tractor-trailers burned early Sunday in a remote area off Highway 690 in Vass, according to Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue.

“Just after 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue was dispatched to an outside fire off Highway 690,” reports the department. “Upon the arrival of the first fire engine, they reported a grass fire with multiple trailers involved. A secondary size-up confirmed that five tractor-trailers—without tractors attached—were on fire.”

The department says that due to the remote location of the incident, three tanker trucks were utilized to supply water to the attack engine as crews worked to contain the fire, which had spread from one trailer to the other five. Several additional trailers nearby were threatened by the fire.
