FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The City of Fayetteville is still waiting on federal funding to complete repairs to a key bridge that connects the city’s eastern corridor to downtown after a months-long freeze on disaster mitigation projects across North Carolina.
Earlier this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency canceled 60 disaster mitigation projects in the state, totaling about $200 million, under the Trump administration.
Of that amount, roughly $15 million was earmarked for bridge repairs and flood mitigation efforts near businesses and homes in downtown Fayetteville. City officials said millions of dollars had already been spent to begin the work before FEMA halted the projects.
