Parents, community say no to closing these Cumberland County Schools

Alumni, parents and community members are voicing opposition to a consulting firm’s recommendation to close or consolidate 13 schools, a proposal that followed a district-commissioned analysis of Cumberland County’s schools.

Most of the opposition has come from those connected to Beaver Dam and Massey Hill Classical, while others disagree with recommendations to close a school in Spring Lake and to renovate E.E. Smith High School instead of constructing a new building.

Facilities assessment specialist MGT of America Consulting was hired earlier this year to analyze conditions of the district’s 85 schools and develop redistricting plans and a list of potential schools for consolidations…
