Firefighters responded to a chicken coop fire Tuesday afternoon after a Crain’s Creek Fire Department chief spotted heavy black smoke while returning from a medical call.
According to the department, the fire occurred around 5:25 p.m. at a residence off McPherson Road in the Vass area. While traveling back to the station, Chief Mackey noticed the smoke. The property owner was contacted, and said he was nearby in a cornfield and heading home.
