Fayetteville State Launches New B.S. Program in Special Education

Fayetteville State University will roll out a Bachelor of Science in Special Education in the fall of 2026. The College of Education built this program because North Carolina desperately needs more licensed special education teachers.

Right now, the HBCU offers only an undergraduate minor and a Master of Arts in Teaching for Special Education. This new degree will let way more students enter classrooms with full licensure and the skills they need from day one.

Students will tackle coursework while getting real experience in actual schools. Graduates can pursue K-12 teaching certification and choose a concentration, like elementary education, reading, or mathematics…
