Brieon Mayfield, 16, the son of Trevor Mayfield and Brittany Mayfield, is a junior at Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville.
He’s one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers because he “exemplifies excellence, leadership, and perseverance — qualities that define a Future Black History Maker,” write his nominators, Jack Britt Principal Dr. Queesha Tillman and AIG teacher Lori Coleman. “As a dedicated student-athlete and a high-performing scholar, Brieon consistently demonstrates discipline, resilience, and a strong commitment to academic and athletic success. Beyond the classroom and the field, Brieon leads with integrity as an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, inspiring peers through faith, teamwork, and character. His drive to excel and uplift others reflects the spirit of future Black leaders who will continue shaping history through excellence, purpose, and positive influence.”

What’s your favorite subject in school?
Science, more specifically, life sciences like anatomy and biology.
What are your career aspirations?
My career aspirations are to get my degree in biology. From there I want to go down the emergency medicine pipeline to become an emergency medicine physician.
Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?
A couple of hobbies that I have include wrestling, hanging out with family, and watching sports. A couple of things that I like doing for fun are eating and playing with my brothers.
Do you have any talents? What are they?
I am a very talented wrestler. I can also play the trombone at an intermediate level.
What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
My favorite thing about myself is my integrity. How no matter who is watching or who is listening, I try to hold myself to a certain standard.
Who is someone you admire, even if they don’t know it?
Someone that I admire that might not know it is my Aunt Kiley because of how she trusts in God.
If you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would meet Jesus Christ because I would want to talk to him about his wisdom and experience his love for people.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to the Amazon Rainforest because of the diversity of animals there. I would want to explore and interact with the unique wildlife that inhabits it.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
I would have the powers of Green Lantern’s ring so that I can project objects out of the ring and use them for when I forget things or when I’m in need of specific objects.
What’s your favorite movie, TV show and/or book?
My favorite movie is “Cars,” and my favorite TV show is “Sister, Sister.”
If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be?
I would eat steak every day if I could.
