Fayetteville MLK Ride shines light on a park stuck in neutral | Opinion

Joe McGee wants young people to embrace Fayetteville’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

He believes getting young people invested in the park will help safeguard the future of the site, which is anchored by a statue of the Civil Rights icon and has been in development for more than 20 years. That is the primary reason he has organized the I Ride 4 MLK Day Community Convoy to the park, located on Blue Street off Murchison Road, near Fayetteville State University. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, and is billed as family fun and an “empowering experience for youth,” according to a promotional flyer. The convoy lineup is set for 9 a.m.
