Records outline confrontation that sparked Fayetteville triple homicide

A man charged in the triple slayings of a Fayetteville mother and her two adult children was allegedly choking the mother when she slashed him with a knife, and he reportedly started shooting, the charging document alleges.

Nijyle Elias Censere Lewis, 25, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the Jan. 25 deaths of Cheri Smith, 50; her son Erin Poole, 29; and her daughter Amanda Smith, 23, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
