Whiteville police arrest homicide suspect using new LPR cameras on day one

WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) – New License Plate Readers (LPR) technology in Whiteville has led to an arrest in a homicide investigation less than 24 hours after installation.

On Thursday, March 5, at 1:45 p.m., the Whiteville Police Department (WPD) was alerted by an LPR camera about a vehicle linked to a wanted person from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, identified through an NCIC database hit.

The department said officers located the vehicle and established surveillance before arresting Q’rana Sha’Dymond McKay.

McKay was wanted on outstanding warrants related to a homicide investigation in Cumberland County, the department said…
