March 2026 Update
The Architectural Survey of West Southern Pines is now complete by the Town’s contracted consultants at HMW Preservation. The project was funded through a 2022 Underrepresented Communities Grant from the National Park Service’s Federal Historic Preservation Fund.
The survey documents approximately 250 historic resources in the historically African American community of West Southern Pines. Prior to this effort, only eighteen properties in the area had been formally documented through earlier architectural surveys…
