FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A grand jury has indicted Avantae Deven, the adoptive mother of two children whose partial skeletal remains were found years after they had gone missing in Fayetteville.
Deven is accused of murdering, dismembering, and burning the bodies of both children, identified as Blake Deven and London Deven.
Monday’s indictment marked the first big update in the case in more than a year. The jury indicted Deven on four charges:
- First-degree murder
- Destroying a body/remains concealing an unnatural death
- Intentional child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury
- Negligent child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury
Blake and London were two of five unrelated children adopted by Avantae. The Fayetteville Police Department previously told CBS 17 those children were exposed to “extreme forms of torture, abuse and neglect.”
