DeViere highlights the people shaping Cumberland County in annual address

From a Spring Lake sixth-grader making it her mission to help the homeless, to a veteran who started his own honey farm and another who has pushed for pollutant-free water in Gray’s Creek — even to hometown rapper J. Cole’s return in September — Cumberland County’s top elected official said the county’s focus remains its people.

Kirk deViere, chair of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, delivered the state of the county address March 17 to a full room of nearly 100 people in the Cumberland County Historic Courthouse. The event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the courthouse’s opening.
