ELON – The Elon softball team received a complete-game, nine-strikeout performance from junior Anna Dew, but could not keep pace with Campbell as the Camels earned a 3-1 win in extra innings in the CAA series opener on Friday at Hunt Softball Park.
Elon (11-22, 5-2 CAA) dropped its third straight game overall and saw its three-game win streak against Campbell snapped as the Camels improved to 18-14 overall and 5-2 in league play. The loss leaves the two teams tied in the South Division standings.
In the Circle
- Dew went the distance for her eighth complete game of the season, falling to 7-6. The Harrisburg, N.C., native was one strikeout shy of matching her career high, allowing three runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts.
- Campbell’s Katelyn Huber also tossed a complete game, improving to 10-2. The rookie allowed one hit while striking out eight and walking three.
At the Plate
- Elon recorded one hit in the contest, coming on an RBI double from Greta Hessenthaler in the third inning.
- Mary Moss Wirt scored the Phoenix’s lone run and was one of three players to draw a walk, joined by Reili Gardner and Jenna Klein.
