FAYETTEVILLE — The Wilson Warbirds tasted their first loss of their inaugural Single-A Carolina League season with a 6-5 loss to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Saturday night, April 4, at SEGRA Stadium.
Wilson, which won Friday’s season opener 2-0, erased a deficit in the top of the eighth inning but could not hold off Fayetteville’s response in the bottom half.
Trailing 4-3 entering the eighth, the Warbirds drew even when catcher Yannic Walther lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring first baseman Frederi Montero — who earlier drilled the first home run in franchise history — to tie the game at 4-all. The momentum was short-lived…
