Special Olympics Mississippi and JPS elementary schools kick off second annual kickball tournament

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Elementary students from four Jackson Public Schools teamed up with Special Olympics Mississippi athletes for a friendly kickball tournament. It was held at Jackson State University’s Walter Payton Center.

Organizers say, games like this matter to help promote unity and build inclusion among students.

‘One of a kind instructor’ inspires students

“It gives our students the opportunity to see what their world is like and how they can compete, even if they have some kind of disability,” said Shelica Robinson, Manager of Unified Champion Schools. “It just brings awareness that hey, we are all alike. We just may do things a little differently.”
