Owner of Augusta radio stations chipping away at corporate debt

The owner of five Augusta radio stations has signed off on a financial restructuring that’s expected to allow the company to avoid formal bankruptcy while halving about $220 million in outstanding debt.

Beasley Broadcast Group bought Augusta radio station WGAC (580 AM) in 1978. The station’s news/talk format began simulcasting in 2011 on a 95.1 FM frequency under the WGAC call sign.

The 65-year-old radio chain also owns Augusta-area stations WDRR-FM (93.9), WHHD-FM (98.3), WHHD-HD2-FM (97.7), and WKXC-FM (99.5)…
