Longtime animal welfare advocate in Ocala dies

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A longtime animal welfare advocate in North Central Florida is being remembered following her death.

A funeral service for Judith ‘Jaye’ Perrett is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery. Perrett died May 17 at the age of 75 after a years-long battle with esophageal cancer.

Perrett worked as an animal cruelty investigator with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office before co-founding Endangered Animal Rescue Sanctuary, known as EARS, in Citra. The sanctuary takes in animals including big cats, bears, and monkeys…
