Wet weather groove through the weekend

Hopefully you had time to enjoy the sunshine on Monday because we’re stuck in a wet weather groove the rest of the week. Today and Wednesday are more “nuisance wet” with periodic showers, but more rain is expected on Thursday into the weekend.

A weak storm system is lifting north out of the Southeast US this morning. This storm will create scattered rain and non-severe thunderstorms in the Ozarks today. especially in the afternoon for areas near and south of I-44. Rain will be sporadic in coverage, and totals will generally be between 0.25″ and 0.50″. A few heavy downpours and some lightning are possible today.

The rain fades this evening and we’ll find mainly dry weather to start Wednesday. A second weak storm to our southwest may squeak a few rain showers out in Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon, but most spots should stay dry for the majority of the day tomorrow.

A boundary will be left over the Ozarks in the wake of Wednesday’s storm. This boundary will stall in the area for several days, allowing for scattered rain and storms to develop on Thursday through Saturday.

The placement of the boundary will heavily influence how far northeast the rain will be beginning on Thursday. Right now, rain is most likely in Southwest Missouri and Northern Arkansas, with chances tappering off into Central Missouri.

Flooding may become a hazard towards the end of this week as certain areas may receive repeated heavy downpours. Severe weather is not expected, but some lightning is possible. This is not a high-impact weather event, but it will dampen outdoor plans later this week and into Saturday.

The weekend trend is cautiously improving. The boundary may linger into Saturday, but it should be washed out by Sunday, meaning drier weather to end the weekend. Rain on Monday will heavily depend on whether the boundary is fully gone at that time or not…
