CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A pancreatic cancer survivor is sharing a message of hope after a treatment she says made a major difference in her fight against the disease.
Barb Thornton said she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the summer of 2021. She is approaching a milestone that is rare for many patients with the diagnosis.
“The five-year survival rate is 13 percent. The percentage of recurrence is 80 percent. So, it’s kind of like you’re living day-to-day with the dark cloud over your head,” Thornton said.
Thornton has undergone numerous treatments since her diagnosis. At the end of 2021, she received the Whipple procedure, a complex surgery used to remove tumors in the pancreas. She also went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy until it stopped working in 2023…
