HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A woman facing animal cruelty charges in Warrick County has filed to plead guilty but mentally ill ahead of her next court appearance.
Court records show a document was filed on Shayna Burko’s behalf, indicating a potential plea of guilty but mentally ill. A change of plea hearing is set for June 1.
Agreement in the works in Warrick County animal cruelty case
Burko has a criminal history related to animal cruelty. She was sentenced to two years probation in 2023 after being convicted in Vanderburgh County. In January of last year, Burko and her mother Kimberly were arrested after police say they found more than two dozen animals in Burko’s Newburgh home.
