Knoxville Police report 8 DUI arrests, 12 injury crashes over Memorial Day weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department has released a report on traffic incidents during the recent Memorial Day holiday, which is one of the busiest periods of the year for travel.

From the afternoon of May 22 through May 25, officers conducted high-visibility traffic enforcement aimed at curbing reckless driving and serious-injury crashes.

Eight driving under the influence arrests were made. Officers investigated 12 crashes with injuries, and 44 crashes total.

A total of 202 citations were issued during the holiday weekend, including 24 speeding citations. Officers also issued 217 warning citations. In all, 66 motorists received assistance from the department.
