The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 5:27 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026, for a report of a grill on fire at 1180 Ivy Lane. As the initial North Liberty fire and police unit arrived, active fire could be seen beneath the grill. Within seconds, the grill’s propane tank became overheated and began automatically venting to relieve pressure, which spread fire to the building.
Initial arriving crews extinguished the exterior fire and then moved inside the residence to extinguish the fire and to search for occupants. The fire was knocked down quickly and overhaul operations took place inside the building until all hidden fire was uncovered. There were no occupants inside the building at the time of the fire.
