A member of the St. George City Council has proposed breaking off from the parishwide library system to take control of the sole branch within the new city’s limits.
Councilman Drew Murrell introduced an ordinance Tuesday to create a St. George municipal library system and a library board of control, which he says would bring large property tax savings for the city’s residents. But an assistant library director with the East Baton Rouge Parish Library system says the proposed split would have to go through a lot of red tape.
