1. UNLV’s Stan Stolte, an ex-Nevada assistant, retires as Rebels’ head coach

UNLV head coach Stan Stolte, who was a longtime assistant at Nevada under Gary Powers, has retired as the Rebels’ head coach. The 64-year-old had serve as UNLV’s head coach since the 2016 season and was a Rebels assistant before that. During his 11-year head-coaching tenure, Stolte was 278-271, including this year’s 30-25 record. His 278 wins are the second most in UNLV history behind Fred Dallimore. Stolte led UNLV to the 2022 Mountain West regular-season title and helped develop 22 All-Americans and five conference pitchers of the year. He had 16 players drafted in the last seven years. Stolte was an assistant at Nevada from 1997-2010 before joining UNLV’s staff as an assistant from 2011-15.

“I am thankful for so many people – too many to mention here by name – during the past 16 years that I had the pleasure of working with at UNLV,” Stolte said in a news release. “I put every ounce of energy I could into the kids daily, holding them accountable, knowing right from wrong, developing them on the field and trying to win as many baseball games as we could along the way. It’s just time. The new system of how to build championship-quality programs with the portal and everything else makes it tougher to also build lifelong lasting relationships with kids, which is the number one reason I got into this business. I have zero regrets and will always support the Rebels in all sports.”
