The man who allegedly shot a La Porte County sheriff’s deputy at a northwest Indiana hospital, leaving him seriously wounded, allegedly stole his mother’s car from her at gunpoint in Chicago hours before the shooting, authorities said.
Sharod Grafton, 22, was charged with attempted murder, battery against a public safety official and auto theft. According to court documents, Deputy Jon Samuelson located a disabled Chrysler 300 near State Road 2 and 900 West on Friday morning while headed to a department-sanctioned training. Grafton, the driver of the vehicle, requested the deputy take him to the hospital.
Once inside the emergency room at Franciscan Health Michigan City, Grafton allegedly opened fire, shooting Samuelson three times. He sustained a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and a graze wound to the right calf. A third bullet entered the deputy’s head through his left ear, exited through his neck and then reentered his neck and lodged itself inside his T1 vertebrate, court documents stated…
