PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Rescue crews working to get a 16,000-pound boulder off a climber on Mount Hood on Sunday prepared for the worst-case scenario.
A surgical team from OHSU in Portland was put on standby, flown to Mount Hood and circled above the rescue operation, ready to land and amputate the climber’s leg if crews could not get the golf-cart size rock off him.
In the end, they were not needed, but the climber did lose two fingers…
