Defendant pleads guilty in WV fentanyl conspiracy with alleged gang member

ELKINS, WV (WVNS) – A man from Pennsylvania admitted guilt in a fentanyl conspiracy in West Virginia with an alleged gang member.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of West Virginia, 29-year-old Ramon Juan Sims, Jr., of Pittsburgh, PA, admitted to collaborating with alleged gang member, 35-year-old Shawn Galin Whitley, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, to sell fentanyl in North Central West Virginia. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.

As stated in the plea agreement and statements made in court, “in September 2024, the Weston Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, and West Virginia State Police conducted a patrol of the Broad Street area of Weston, West Virginia, due to suspected drug activity.” As a result of the patrol, Sims was stopped by police and allegedly possessed fentanyl and suspected drug proceeds of $2,040. Whitley, Jr., was a passenger in the vehicle when it was stopped.
