Community supports Knoxville baker after tire crashes through window

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Courtney Thomas was in the kitchen of her bakery on May 18 when she heard what sounded like an explosion.

She had been watching a crime show while washing the dishes. She walked over to adjust the volume on her phone when glass flew into the kitchen, right where she’d been standing moments before.

Her first thought after the deafening noise was that she was being shot at. She rushed into the other room and found glass everywhere — shards were lodged in the ceiling tiles and embedded in the cabinets. Glass had even gotten into the baked goods that had been sitting out to cool, ruining them. One cabinet was missing its door, and a table had been knocked nearly to the kitchen.
