Advocates: People experiencing homelessness face rising threats; more safe places needed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Advocates for people experiencing homelessness say violence and harassment are common concerns for those living on the street.

It’s a important conversation in Louisville at the moment, after Louisville Metro Police held a press conference Wednesday on the city’s latest officer-involved shooting.

The suspect in that case, Michael Hristov, had begun a string of crimes that included the brutal death and dismemberment of an unhoused individual. Police say Hristov had a fascination with serial killers and had expressed his desire to start hunting homeless people. Prior to the discovery of his murder, police say Hristov had also stabbed another person who able to successfully escape…
