ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) – New hiking trails and a parking area are now open at Bald Knob Natural Area Preserve in Rocky Mount, giving visitors an unseen look at precious wildlife and serene summit views.
Hidden in the preserve’s jagged, exposed rocks are rare tiny flowers called Piedmont fameflowers, or Phemeranthus peidmontanus. A moderate 1.3-mile hiking trail features scenic viewpoints, with an accessible section for those with limited mobility.
