Everyone knew the Amarillo City Council meeting held Tuesday, May 26, would be a long one, with burning issues such as the landfill-Stinky Fire and the recent water bill problems, but the five-hour meeting left few standing after the more than 15 public comments.
The meeting started with the public comments being moved until after the discussion items, including a utility billing update and parks and recreation updates. Councilmember Les Simpson opposed the moving the comments back, because many people had attended to speak on current issues, and then Mayor Cole Stanley agreed to let the public comments go first.
Stanley started by turning it over to City Manager Grayson Path, who said, “The families that lost their homes weighs on me every day, and I want you to know that your pain is not lost in my office.”
