Austin police urge e-bike safety following rise in reckless riding complaints

AUSTIN, Texas — As e-bikes become more common across Austin, police say they’re seeing more complaints regarding reckless riding.

The Austin Police Department (APD) is urging parents to better understand the differences between e-bikes and higher-powered e-motos, while also making sure young riders know traffic laws and basic safety practices before taking to the streets.

“The biggest thing we want parents to know is that they’re responsible for their kids,” APD Lt. Michael Endres said. “E-bikes offer young adults and teenagers the opportunity of independence, but at the same time, that carries risks.”…
