A resident of Harbor Hills has been charged with a string of burglaries and auto thefts resulting in at least $10,900 in damages.
Alan Robert Schafer, 66, who lives in the upscale community in rural Lady Lake, is considered a suspect in several crimes committed along the U.S. Hwy. 27 corridor on May 15, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
The first call came in at 8:45 a.m. from Katrib Auto Sales, located at 1229 N 14th St. The business’s alarm activated around 2 a.m. Still, law enforcement had not yet been notified because no one was seen on the surveillance cameras at the time. However, an employee later parked at the business to find a broken side window, the report said.
She reviewed the surveillance footage as she called 911 and saw Schafer had tried to open the door. He then grabbed an empty A/C canister from the trash and threw it into the side window, cracking it. He picked up the canister again to throw at another window before finishing breaking the side window, the report said…
