ROCKFORD — A local restaurateur is ready to bring a taste of classic Chicago street food to East State Street after more than a year of work to revive a fire-damaged restaurant space.
Jimmy’s Authentic Chicago Food is expected to open at 3511 E. State St. in mid to late June, according to owner Adel Thabet of Rockford. Renovations that completely overhauled the property are complete and the restaurant is awaiting its final inspection before completing hiring and opening.
The restaurant will specialize in Maxwell Street-style Polish sausage, Chicago-style hot dogs, jerk salmon over rice, and homemade-style Italian beef sandwiches. There will also be gyros, jerk chicken sandwiches and jerk chicken over rice, burgers, and chicken wings, among other options…
