A warning is making the rounds after the Halifax Council on Aging in Massachusetts recently shared a message about a scam targeting Massachusetts drivers and families. According to the Council, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Registry of Motor Vehicles is alerting residents to “a widespread text message (SMS) scam that falsely claims to be from the RMV and demands immediate payment.” The goal of the fraudulent texts is simple: create urgency, push a link, and pressure people into paying before they have time to think twice.
