We want to share an important update about how substitute services will be supported in our district beginning July 1, 2026. After careful consideration, we have partnered with Edustaff, LLC to provide contracted services for substitutes because of their extensive experience supporting school districts and our confidence that they can provide strong service and responsive support for our substitute staff.
This means that, beginning July 1, 2026, Edustaff will become the employer for substitute employees serving in Salem-Keizer Public Schools. Substitutes who transition to Edustaff can continue working in our schools and supporting our students and staff, while Edustaff will manage employment-related processes such as onboarding, payroll, and substitute support. Substitutes who transition to Edustaff will continue to receive the competitive substitute pay rates established by our district.
This change will take effect on July 1, 2026. To continue serving as a substitute in Salem-Keizer Public Schools after July 1, 2026, substitutes will need to complete the transition to employment with Edustaff prior to that date and within the planned timeframe (see schedule listed below).
Sick Time Leave
The most popular question we have received has to do with accrued sick time hours. As you may know, by default, sick time hours are not transferrable between employers. We also heard how important these hours are to you. In an effort to respond to your feedback and make this transition as easy as possible, the district and Edustaff have agreed to hold you harmless as you transition to Edustaff. This means the same number of sick time hours you have available on June 30, 2026, will be available to you for use beyond June 30, 2026, as long as you become an Edustaff employee prior to July 1.
