Man convicted of attempted murder in Point Defiance Park stabbing to be sentenced

TACOMA, Wash. — Several months after being found guilty of attempted murder in the brutal stabbing of a woman in Point Defiance Park, Nicholas Matthew is once again scheduled to be sentenced for that crime in Pierce County Friday afternoon.

The victim, Victoria Nizzoli, was walking the trails in the park in February 2024 when Matthew attacked her with a knife, viciously stabbing her multiple times and nearly killing her. Multiple people on the trail heard Nizzoli’s screams and one was able to kick the suspect off her.

Matthew got away that day but was arrested about a month later after an intense manhunt…
