Morgan County is planning a U.S. semiquincentennial celebration on the Morgan County Courthouse lawn on July 2.
“Not many countries, especially free countries, last this long,” said Morgan County Commission Chairman Ray Long. “Two hundred and fifty years is a long time. We still basically have the same form of government that we started with 250 years ago. Still the best nation in the world, and we need to celebrate that. Not just for us older people, but for the younger people to see what we’ve accomplished through the years.”
Sara McClellan and Debbi Hendershot, both Morgan County Commission business services coordinators, are planning the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They said they plan to put a committee together to help organize the festivities, although everything is still in the early planning stages…
