Gang shooter sentenced to 12 years in Canyon County

NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney says Lazaro Vela has received a 12 year sentence for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon enhancement connected to a “gang-related” shooting in Nampa in September of 2022.

According to the release, Vela, a member of the Brown Pride Surenos gang, pulled a handgun and shot a member of the Norteno gang in the parking lot of a Buffalo Wild Wings in Nampa on Sept. 1, 2022. Another Norteno member, Brian Moreno then shot bystander Joe Flores “in an attempt to retaliate.”

Vela was then involved in another gang related shooting in the Grove Plaza parking lot in Boise in 2023. The report says he fired “several rounds” into a group of Norteno members, injuring a 16-year-old female. Vela was later convicted in Ada County and sentenced to 20 years in prison with ten years fixed…
