A Rockford arson investigation has resulted in multiple felony charges after a house fire injured a firefighter, displaced a family, and killed a canine.
Firefighter Injured During Dramatic Rescue Effort
A Rockford house fire that initially appeared to be a tragic residential blaze has now been classified as an arson case, leading to multiple criminal charges and an ongoing search for three suspects.
According to the Rockford Fire Department, crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Andrews Street at approximately 4:40 p.m. on May 20. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the home, with the fire spreading rapidly throughout the structure.
Search Reveals No Victims Inside
Bystanders informed firefighters that adults and several children lived at the residence and were not seen outside. As crews entered the home to search, they heard screams from inside, prompting an urgent rescue effort.
During the interior search, one firefighter suffered second-degree burns in multiple areas and fell through deteriorating second-floor stairs. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital and has since returned home. Officials say he is expected to make a full recovery…
