Weekend boating features morning rains

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Boaters can expect generally manageable conditions through the weekend, but scattered thunderstorms will remain the main concern each day. The pattern favors showers and storms developing over the Gulf during the late night and morning hours, then shifting inland during the afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorm will be capable of producing dangerous lightning, sudden gusty winds, rough seas, and sharply reduced visibility.

Today, Saturday, west winds increase to around 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon with seas building to around 2 feet. A few morning showers are possible offshore, followed by scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Bay and inland waters will see a moderate chop during the afternoon.

Sunday brings similar conditions with west winds near 10 knots and seas around 2 feet. Boating conditions outside of thunderstorms should remain fairly favorable, with lighter chop on bays and inland waters.
