On May 30, 1874, the Brooks-Baxter War was still active in Little Rock. Contemporary reporting cited by the Encyclopedia of Arkansas says Baxter forces had hauled up the cannon later known as “Lady Baxter” and positioned it to command the State House area during the Reconstruction-era showdown between rival claimants for governor.
