VERO BEACH — The inaugural gathering on senior wellness attracted over 100 participants to the Emerson Center in Vero Beach early last month. Local sponsors emphasized practical steps for maintaining both physical vitality and financial security as people age.
Discussions highlighted daily nutrition choices, avoiding financial exploitation, building stronger community ties, handling medications safely, managing feelings of sadness or isolation, and finding tools for cognitive or physical limitations. Experts from various fields shared insights during the sessions.
Seventeen agencies set up informational booths, allowing attendees to speak directly with staff members about available support. These included neuropsychology specialists, counseling practices, primary care networks, home care providers, neurological foundations, strength training programs, therapy centers, memory clinics, senior residences, resource centers, visiting nurses, community clinics, retirement facilities, faith-based groups, spiritual centers, wellness initiatives, and financial education teams.
