Today I had a conversation about the ways that transportation has changed over the years, and it ended with talk of driverless cars.
“Trains, Planes and Automobiles,” the silly movie starring John Candy and Steve Martin, came to mind, and as usual, my thoughts moved to the art world. The very recent exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum, “Roaring Art, Fashion and the Automobile, in France, before the Second World War,” showcased a period of time that recognized the automobile not just as a means of transport, but as a profound influencer of contemporary culture encompassing art, fashion and design.
An article from the internet entitled, “The Art of Transportation Art,” says, “Art in its various forms has always been a way for individuals to express their perceptions and various experiences in the world. From paintings, sculptures and photography to performance art and installations, artists have continuously pushed boundaries, explored new ideas and captured the essence of their surroundings. One such genre that has emerged in recent years is that of transportation art, which highlights the different aspects of transportation and its role in our lives.”…
