King Charles is reportedly eager to strengthen his relationship with his youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but only under certain conditions.
The 77-year-old monarch is well known for his close bond with his older grandchildren-Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8-and is said to wish for a similar connection with Archie, 7, and Lilibet, who will turn 5 next week. However, since Archie and Lilibet live in California with their parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, opportunities for family time have been limited.
Recent reports suggest that Prince Harry is considering bringing his children to the U.K. this year, with Balmoral Castle in Scotland emerging as the most likely setting for the King to spend quality time with them. According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, Balmoral offers the privacy and space needed for such a visit, with plenty of cottages available for the Sussex family.
Seward also emphasized that any meeting would come with strict conditions. The King would require that Harry and Meghan agree to specific terms, including accommodation arrangements separate from the castle and ensuring that Prince William and Kate Middleton would not be present simultaneously. The royal household staff would handle all logistics to maintain discretion and security.
Archie was born in the U.K. in May 2019 and had considerable contact with his royal family before relocating to the U.S. in 2020. Lilibet was born in California in June 2021, and both children traveled to the U.K. last year for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee-a significant event during which Lilibet is believed to have met King Charles for the first time.
Harry and Meghan’s move to the U.S. followed intense media scrutiny, reported concerns for their family’s well-being, and a perceived lack of support from the royal institution, often referred to as “The Firm.” The upcoming potential visit could mark an important step toward rebuilding family ties under carefully managed circumstances.
